A Flower Exhibition in the middle of the Dutch Bulb Fields
The idea of the founders of the Keukenhof was to present a flower show where growers from all over the Netherlands and Europe could show off their hybrids – and help the Dutch export industry. Holland is the world’s largest exporter of flowers. The Keukenhof is in a small town called Lisse. About 30 minutes by car from Amsterdam in an area called the “Dune and Bulb Region”. Boats depart from the windmill in the park taking people out on a tour through the tulip fields. And if a boat trip is not enough you can also book a trip in the legendary DC-3 Dakota Princess Amalia and see the tulip fields from the air. Holland is world-famous for its flowers.
Where to buy flower bulbs?
When you are in Holland you can buy your flower bulbs in specialized green malls and at almost every flower shops. In the Netherlands these green malls are called “Tuincentra”, best translated as Garden centra, they offer a wide range of flower bulbs.

Best time to visit the flower fields
Keukenhof is open annually from mid-March to mid-May. The best time to view the flower fields in the Netherlands is between the end of April and the beginning of May.
How to get to Keukenhof by car, bus or train?
Keukenhof Express takes you to the main entrance of Keukenhof without any stops. This Keukenhof Express runs from Amsterdam RAI, Schiphol Airport, Leiden Central Station and Haarlem Station (bus lines 852, 854, 858, 859 and 50)

The vast Dutch bulb fields near Den Helder are welcoming and hospitable.
Take a steam train along the Dutch bulb fields. Get on the train to the cities of Hoorn or Medemblik. Say 50 km north of Amsterdam.

Walking through the tulip fields
When you’re visiting a Dutch Tulip farm it is normally allowed to walk through the fields and make as many photos as you like. Remember, you are actually walking through the flowers, so be careful and respectful. Picking tulips is not allowed.
A Castle surrounded by Dutch bulb fields
Castle the Keukenhof is situated opposite the impressive garden called Keukenhof. In the Castle, you find magnificent art treasures. The Chinese and Japanese porcelain e.g. is shown in the 17th-century style and exhibited in a unique and specially built cabinet, with an exuberant chimney. But let’s forget the Castle for a moment and focus on tulips. Plan your visit to Holland carefully if you want to see blossoming tulips in the Keukenhof and the endless tulip fields along the western coast near the villages Lisse, Hillegom, and Schagen in the north. When you are struck by flower power the best time to visit Holland is between April 15 and May 15. Undoubtedly, and not only because of the tulip season this is the best time of the year to visit Holland.
