By Henneke on 13 February 2023 Culture

Oops, do you still have no idea how to create a romantic Valentine’s Day in the Netherlands? What present do you give to your Valentine’s sweetheart this year? Or would you rather take her on a surprise trip? Are you looking for a super nice sweet special surprise for your sweetheart? In the Netherlands, there are so many lovely gifts, trips, and surprises to think of that you might get confused. Let us get it clear, while we think along with you! Together we will come up with a perfect Dutch love surprise!

Valentine’s Day present

February 14 is Valentine’s Day, a day of puzzling romance and ever-lasting love.

Valentine’s Day actually was not overwhelmingly celebrated in the Netherlands. Since the mid-1990s, Valentine’s Day has become increasingly popular. But, in recent years, Valentine’s Day is seen as the day of love in the Netherlands. Valentine’s cards, flowers, poems, and love gifts are sent to loved ones but also to anonymous loved ones. Imagine the puzzling situation you can create by sending your secret loved one a red rose on Valentine’s Day.

Dear Valentine, I love you ❤️. In Dutch we say “Lieve schat, ik hou van jou” ❤️

Express your love and admiration to your sweetheart on Valentine’s day.

Valentine’s day is the day you express your love with a poem, metaphor, a special gift, or a note. After all, everyone likes to hear that they are loved. So spread “feel-good moments” around like confetti at the climax of a party.

On Valentine's Day you say it with flowers.

Tips for a loving Valentine’s Day

Breakfast in bed might be a cliche but it truly is a wonderful romantic start to the day.
Then cover the bed with Red Roses.
Take your time for a romantic walk on the beach, in a forest, nature park, or city center.
Slowly take dinner by candlelight or moonlight.
Surprise your sweetheart with chocolate. A delicacy of chocolate is lovable. Do visit the delicious Chocolate Museum in Middelburg.
Make it a movie night. So you do go and watch a romantic movie in one of our finest cinemas.
Visit a romantic castle, like the lovely Castle de Haar at the village Haarzuilens, and try to hire him a Lipizzaner.
Spread positive vibrations by sending lots of Valentine’s cards.
Personal gifts like perfume or Eau de toilette are successful tokens of love.
Then take him in a cloud of perfume for a Sauna Visit and spoil him with a massage.

Surprise your loved one on the loveliest day of the year with Valentine’s breakfast in bed and wake up together. What is a nice Valentine’s love breakfast? Impress your lover and make it luxurious and fancy, an unforgettable breakfast.

Start with some bubbles, champagne, or prosecco. A fresh croissant with chocolate and strawberries with whipped cream is so delicious and a great joy to eat together. What about a fresh and healthy smoothy bowl of yogurt or French cottage cheese covered with strawberries, blueberries, mango, banana, or cocos, Don’t forget a finishing touch with red fruit. And what to think of a creamy scrambled egg? A sesame bagel or a donut with egg, avocado, and tomato? And most important of all could be cupcakes, macaroons, meringues, or cake pops. And what to think about chocolate cake, whipped cream, and sticky toffee sauce. Your Valentines Day should start awesome and joyful, your lover should be more than surprised with such a lovely breakfast.

And if you don’t want to make that much effort, just order Valentine’s breakfast and have it delivered to your home in a nice and easy way. Valentine’s breakfasts can be ordered in all kinds of flavors and prices. It is even possible to order Valentine’s breakfasts taking allergies into account such as gluten-free or salt-free or taking other dietary wishes and requirements into account such as vegetarian, vegan, or halal. Anyway, there are plenty of choices possible.

Valentine's Day love balloons

Love, love, love, how do you show your love? Decorate your lover’s room with heart garlands, pink balloons, candles, and a beautiful bunch of red roses. Over the top romantic but so much fun.

Maybe you should think twice this year before buying plenty of red roses. Could be so costly as this energy crisis drags on. A good alternative is to buy your Valentine’s Day bouquet at the flower market.
