Best 10 terraces, have a guilty pleasure on a trendy terrace

0
By Joop on 1 December 2022 Cafes, restaurants, hospitality industry

It’s an awesome time of the year, everything is possible, spring was soft, summer was hot, autumn is colorful and winter is cozy. Most terraces are open all year and have a heating system so you’ll never be cold. Some terraces are not open for the whole year, so when the terrace is closed there’s always a great place to sit inside.

Where to find trendy terraces in the Netherlands?

Where can we better be than on a trendy terrace enjoying a cocktail or drinking a nice cold white beer and having some tasty snacks? I like to share my favorite terraces with you. As you can see my favorite places are mainly at the waterside or in the city center. Maybe one day you come and join me and we can drink a nice cold Dutch Blond Beer together?

Daen’s concept store and cafe in Utrecht

DAEN’S Utrecht

Daen’s is a trendy and small-town cafe. You can find it in the square behind the town hall. Daen’s concept store has a super nice terrace, service is fast and friendly. Daen’s concept store consists of a cafe and clothing store and is located in the former Fire Station Utrecht. It is cozy and busy. You can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and small warm dishes in the evening. Recommended is Daen’s plank. Delicious finger food with a nice glass of house wine. You can also choose small dishes, vegetarian, or various sandwiches and toasted sandwiches.

DOT, GRONINGEN

DOT Groningen

DOT has a spacious gastro bar and is a wonderful place for everyone. Imagine yourself in another world and watch the chef prepare the tastiest street food while listening to the coolest beats from the resident DJs. If you come at the weekend, you can dance to the best 80’s disco classics or go crazy to the beats of the best DJs. During the winter months, we transform the white sphere of DOT into the largest Christmas bauble in the world. In the summer months, adjacent to DOT, the city beach of Groningen, praised by Lonely Planet, also arises. A place where the energy of Groningen can be felt on all sides.

Restaurant Bazar, Rotterdam

Restaurant Bazar Rotterdam

In the famous nightlife street Witte de Withstraat, you’ll find plenty of nice restaurants, bars, and fast food joints. But the one you must visit is Restaurant Bazar. It’s such a cool place to be with its awesome colorful interior, eye-catching colorful oriental lamps, and lots of space to sit on three floors. The environment breathes the atmosphere of an oriental market. Enjoy delicious dishes served by friendly staff while enjoying cool music. Restaurant Bazar has a big sidewalk terrace. When the weather is nice it’s a great place where you can have a very tasty breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The cuisine is Middle Easter and Mediterranean. Restaurant Bazar is a very popular restaurant, if you want to be sure of a table, it’s better to make a reservation.

Volkshotel / Canvas, Amsterdam

Volkshotel-Canvas

On the 7th floor, there is a cozy terrace with a spectacular 3D view over Amsterdam. You don’t want to miss this spot, it’s an awesome place for some nice cappuccino or fresh mint or ginger tea with lovely pie, or some wine, beer from the tap, and some delicious fresh-made snacks.

Klein Berlin, Utrecht

Klein Berlijn
Klein Berlijn Utrecht

A creative and cultural hot spot with a lovely terrace on the waterside. Located in an old industrial area at the river Vaartse Rijn. Small Berlin is a cool place to listen to music, watch the theater, and dance to the music of trendy DJs. Innovation and talent predominate here. Have a German beer, a nice glass of wine, or an appetizer. On the weekends you can dance to live music.

Waterkant, Amsterdam

Waterkant special

Great place to relax in the sun beside the water, meet new people, and eat a Surinam Roti or a tasty peanut soup. This restaurant and lovely terraces is inspired on Paramaribo, the capitol fo Suriname. Here you can experience the famous Surinam hospitality and enjoy delicious multicultural snacks and drinks.

Stadsvilla Sonsbeek, Arnhem

You find Stadsvilla Sonsbeek on top of the Hartjesberg ( Hearts mountain). The view makes it worthwhile to visit this terrace. On the weekends there are often outdoor concerts. In the park, you’ll find more terraces. What I like best is to take a blanket and just sit in the grass enjoying the sun, watching the people and getting into the happening.
Address: Park Sonsbeek, Zijpendaalseweg, Arnhem

Hanneke’s boom, Amsterdam

Trendy terrace in Amsterdam
Hanneke’s Boat and Boom – Amsterdam

Lovely terrace, a great view on museum Nemo and nice food, and drinks. Lots of events are organized here.
A great place to let the day linger away. I just love Hanneke’s boom.

Theehuis (Tea House) Rhijnauwen, Utrecht

Theehuis Rhijnauwen
Tea House Rhijnauwen Utrecht

A little bit old-fashioned, but a tremendously cool spot beside the river “Kromme Rijn”. When you visit Theehuis Rhijnauwen make sure you eat the specialty of the house: Rhijnauwen wrap. Definitely my favorite.

De oude Waag, Hoorn

De oude Waag
De Oude Waegh Hoorn

This is the very popular terrace on the big square in the center of Hoorn. Hoorn is a great town with a very nice harbor, a jail museum, lovely old stepped gable houses, a historic defense tower, an ancient city gate, and lots of trendy restaurants and cafes. In the summertime when the fair is in town, everybody gets a little bit crazy.

Millinger Tea Garden at Millingerwaard National Park

Tea Gardens in Holland
Milliger Tea Garden

The Millinger Tea Garden calls itself a ‘pearl in the polder’ and that is what it is. It is a wonderfully quiet, relaxed, artistically beautiful garden that is largely decorated in an oriental-Mediterranean style. In the Millinger Tea Garden you can choose from a high tea, extensive lunch, various cakes and of course all kinds of tea. The tea garden is open every day from the end of March to the end of October.

NDSM Amsterdam – Lots of nice restaurants and terraces

My one and only nr 1 top terrace location is on the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam. NSDM is located in one of the nicest spots of Amsterdam with a beautiful view over the IJ. If you visit Amsterdam, don’t miss this, it’s an absolute must, so make sure to put it on your bucket list.

How to get to NDSM? Take a small ferry behind the Central Railway Station to get there. The little trip to NDSM is already a joy in itself. What dos NDSM stands for? Nederlandsche Dok en Scheepsbouw Maatschappij freely translated as The Netherlands Dock and Shipbuilding Company.
