Best Blooming Blossom Spots and Routes in the Netherlands

The Netherlands is a great country to see blooming blossom trees during the spring season. Definitely do visit one of the many blooming parks, gardens, or orchards that can be found in the Netherlands. Moreover, many blossom routes and trails have been set out to view and admire our variety of blooming flowering trees. In fact we present in this blog the best places to see flowers and blossoming trees in our country.
In any case following a blossom trail is a wonderful way to visit the Netherlands; experience the beauty of nature and appreciate the changing seasons. Naturally, all these locations, walking trails, and routes are beautiful in their own way. Definitely it’s worth to do some research to find the place that suits you best.

1. Amazing Japanese Cherry blossom park at the Amsterdamse Bos

Blossoms are highly revered in the Netherlands and symbolize the fleeting nature of life. Always the cherry blossom season starts late March and lasts for about two weeks. The most famous cherry blossom park in the Netherlands is the Amsterdamse Bos, located just outside of Amsterdam. There are about 400 cherry blossom trees in the Amsterdamse Bos. Consequently you can imagine it looks like snow is falling here a on windy April-Day.

2. Keukenhof and its surroundings

The Keukenhof Gardens, located in the city of Lisse, is a very popular destination. Indeed, visitors will see an amazing variety of flowering trees in this garden. Without reservation this place is called: “The garden of Europe”. Moreover, Keukenhof Gardens are famous for flowering bulbs like tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths. Moreover, you can admire lined up cherry and apple trees.

3. Bulb Route – Bloembollenroute

One of the most popular blossom routes is the Bulb Route. Among the Dutch known as the “Bloembollenroute”. Obviously this trail takes you through the heart of the tulip fields in the region between Haarlem and Leiden. In fact there are several bulb routes with different distances to walk or to follow by bike. Choose the flower bulb route that suits you best. There are walking routes, cycling routes, and car routes. Whichever walking, biking, or car route you choose, whichever distance or type of route you follow, they are all equally beautiful.

3. Blossom trees along the river the Linge

A trip along the river Linge takes you right through the Betuwe. Definitely, the best place to see blooming fruit orchards. The river Linge is one of the longest rivers in the Netherlands. The cycle route along this river is highly recommended. Certainly from March to mid-May, when the fruit trees are blooming.

4. Betuwe, walking along in the major fruit area of the Netherlands

The Betuwe offers great blossom routes. Definitely, this region is known very well for its fruit orchards. Several walking and cycling routes are set out in the beautiful picturesque Betuwe-Area in the province of Gelderland. The tracks are absolutely famous for its cherry blossoms in springtime. Moreover the blooming apple-, pear-, and plume-trees are extremely beautiful.

In the Betuwe there are two world-famous dikes: the Appeldijkje, and the Lingedijk. In fact, these dikes lie between the villages of Tricht and Beesd. The Betuwe cycling and walking tours run along apple, cherry, and pear orchards. The Betuwe area is located between Nijmegen and the Biesbosch.

5. River “Kromme Rijn” blossom route

Definitely, it is the best thing to follow the blossom route by bike. Nevertheless, it is also doable by car. Start this route in the historic town of Wijk bij Duurstede and enjoy an amazingly beautiful tour.

The blossom tour leads you past large and smaller fruit orchards with pears, apples, plums, and cherry trees. In fact, from April to mid-May, all fruit trees are in full bloom. So this is the best time to follow the route. Enjoy the white and pink blossom, Blooming trees wherever you look.

6. Blooming heather at National Parks in the region Veluwe

In the Netherlands, you can find blooming heather in various places, depending on the season and the region. The purple-colored heather is best seen at National Parks. Next, we like to share some places you must see.:.

National Park De Hoge Veluwe

National Park De Hoge Veluwe has vast heathland that blooms in August and September. Especially the area around the sheepfold in Hoog Buurlo is very beautiful. The Veluwe Zoom route takes you along the edge of Veluwe National Park. In fact, you can see the heather in bloom from late summer to early autumn.

The “Posbank”

This hilly area in the province of Gelderland is known for its beautiful heathland. The area is easily accessible by car and bike. Mid-August the hiking trails offer stunning views over blossoming heather fields.

National Park Dwingelderveld

This National Park in the province of Drente has a large area of heath lands that blooms in late summer. The purple-colored heath offers a beautiful sight.

Wezepse Heide

The heather lands in this nature reserve are located southeast of the town of Wezep. Moreover, this area is a water catchment area and it is grazed by a herd of Scottish highlanders.

Loenermark

The beautiful Veluwe landscape Loenermark has vast forests and undulating heaths. Red deer, fallow deer, roe deer, and wild boar live here. In addition recently the wolf returned. In the Netherlands, the wolf is a protected animal but not everybody is happy with this animal protection law. In fact, in the middle of the area there is a sheepfold used as a wolf shelter for sheep. Especially young wolfs are a problem for sheep farmers.

Sallandse Heuvelrug: This national park located in Overijssel has beautiful heath lands that bloom in August and September. In fact, there are many hiking trails in the park that take you through the heather lands.

Strabrechtse Heide: This nature reserve located in North Brabant is home to one of the largest heath lands in the Netherlands. The heather here also blooms in August and September. Moreover, this is a popular spot for hiking and cycling.

7. Blooming dunes and beach grasses

Finally, the Wadden Islands are definitely worth a visit because you must see their beautiful blooming dunes and beach grasses in spring. The island of Texel is particularly known for its colorful fields of narcissus and hyacinths.

8. Blossom Trees in the city

Certainly, we all love springtime with all these amazing, lovely, white, and pink blossoms. The whole of the Netherlands is so beautiful in the spring. Blooming tulip fields, blooming fruit trees, and blooming heather above all do demonstrate how beautiful a country can be.
