Harlingen is a port city in the northern part of the Netherlands, and it is known for its maritime heritage. Tall ships are large, traditionally-rigged sailing vessels that have historical significance and are often used for educational and recreational purposes. Harlingen is the host for the Tall Ship Race
Harlingen, International Tall Ship Race
It is well known that in the past Harlingen organized events and meetings for tall ships. The Frisian city of Harlingen has hosted the Tall Ships Races since 2014. Since then, this international sailing race has taken place every four years in this northern Dutch port. The Zeil Harlingen Foundation earned in 2014 the Award for the highest number of participating trainees ever. There were 337 trainees participating, a great achievement. Four years later, in 2018, Harlingen once again hosted this 4-day maritime super spectacular event, the Tall Ships sailing race. The event attracted no fewer than 335,000 visitors in 2018. In 2022, the city of Harlingen was once again on the stage of the international Tall Ship Race. The next International Tall Ship Race will start in 2026 in the city of Harlingen. We are all looking forward to this impressive International Tall Ship event.
Famous Dutch Tall Ship “Stad Amsterdam”, City of Amsterdam
One of the most famous tall ships associated with Harlingen is the “Stad Amsterdam.” The Stad Amsterdam is a modern replica of a 19th-century clipper ship and is frequently seen participating in maritime festivals and events around Europe.
