The Markthal in Rotterdam is a great food market, and the building “Markthal” is modern architecture at its finest. A cathedral enhancing the worship of food? It’s certainly beautiful and grand but it can’t be compared to the Sistine Chapel, however, what can? The Markthal, best translated as Market Hall, is in the Guardian newspaper’s number 1 in the top ten of finest food markets. It’s a must-see according to The New York Times.

The market offers a great choice of food. The international kitchen has Japanese sushi, Surinamese Chicken, and Andalusian fish. Delicious traditional Dutch specialties are abundant such as mature Rotterdam cheese, syrup waffles, and fries made with fresh potatoes. Let me advise you! You won’t regret following my tip. There’s one place in Markethal you really must go to, it is called “Het Kroketloket”. Here they make the most delicious homemade kroketten in 8 different flavors. For example, you can choose a beafkroket, mushroomkroket, cheesekroket, chrimpkroket, or a spicy chickenkroket. But whatever kroket you choose you’ll never forget the taste of this delicious kroket.
